Satori is a Japanese Buddhist term for enlightenment that literally means "understanding". In the Zen Buddhist tradition, satori refers to a flash of sudden awareness, or individual enlightenment, and is considered a "first step" or embarkation toward nirvana.
Satori is an intuitive experience and has been described as being similar to awakening one day with an additional pair of arms, and only later learning how to use them.
At the end of the Greg Louganis Camp Satori, Greg is not looking for a specific answer but for evidence that the performer has grasped the state of mind expressed by the koan (a story, dialogue, question, or statement, the meaning of which cannot be understood by rational thinking but may be accessible through intuition) itself.
