'88 Gold Medal Memorabilia

SOLD: 1988 Promotional Speedo

This bathing suit is one of Greg’s signature Speedo styles, seen not only in competitions but also in advertising campaigns and photoshoots. The navy Speedo has “USA” in white and red, with white and red horizontal stripes across the front. The Speedo logo is also screen-printed in white.

Greg also has an autographed Jan. 27, 2020 copy of People Mag showing him in this Speedo, “then & now”.

1988 Seoul SummerOlympics Gold Medal

This gold medal was presented to Greg in Seoul, Korea for winning the Men’s Diving 10 Meter Platform event. Greg won both the platform and the springboard events in 1988, after hitting his head during the springboard preliminaries, resulting in a concussion.

Nearly one week after that, on September 27, 1988, Greg scored an almost perfect 86.70 points on his final dive to win by a narrow margin of 1.14 points.

1989 Variety Plaque:
90th Anniversary Hero

This plaque was presented to Greg honoring him as a great “American Hero” for Variety’s 90th Anniversary in 1989. There is damage on the lower right corner but this is otherwise in very good condition. Cardboard stand on back for tabletop display.

Thanks to you, Greg’s fans, he is able to help great organizations like The Damien Center. In continued efforts to support the Damien Center’s Capital Campaign initiative for a sorely needed new building, Greg will be donating a sizable portion of the proceeds from the sale of his 3 remaining Olympic medals to the fund. Time is now of the essence, as the Damien Center broke ground at the new site in early March 2023. He hopes to raise enough to name 2 different areas of the new building. One for his mother, Frances Louganis, and the other for his greatly missed and dear friend, Ryan White. The Damien Center is close to Greg’s heart, as a long term HIV survivor. They also are very dear to Greg since they helped connect Ryan to services he needed and continue to do that today for anyone in need affected by HIV across the state of Indiana.
